A/B Title Tester
The A/B Title Tester scores two candidate titles against each other on length, numbers, power words, formatting and structure. It gives you a quick, consistent way to choose between options instead of guessing, though only real click-through data proves which title actually wins.
How it works
How to use the A/B Title Tester
Three steps, no account and nothing to install.
What the score measures
Six signals: length (40-60 characters scores highest. Long enough to be specific, short enough to avoid truncation), presence of a number, use of proven power words, bracketed or parenthetical additions, a strong opening word, and whether the title avoids all-caps. These correlate with click-through across large samples but are heuristics, not guarantees.
Real A/B testing on YouTube
YouTube has a built-in Test & Compare feature that runs genuine A/B tests on thumbnails for eligible channels, measuring real watch time share across variants. That is stronger evidence than any heuristic score. Use this tool to narrow a shortlist quickly, then let real data decide where you have access to it.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
40-60 characters is the sweet spot. YouTube truncates around 60-70 characters in most surfaces, and mobile truncates earlier still.
They generally help by making a promise concrete and scannable. They should reflect the actual content, not be added arbitrarily.
No. All-caps reads as shouting, is harder to scan, and is treated as a spam signal. Capitalise selectively at most.
YouTube's Test & Compare feature runs real tests on thumbnails for eligible channels. Titles cannot be split-tested natively, so changing a title and monitoring impressions is the usual approach.
