Why narrower is faster
A broad topic like 'fitness' puts you against channels with millions of subscribers and years of authority. A narrow one, 'strength training for people over 50', 'home workouts in small apartments'. Has a smaller audience but far less competition, and viewers who find you feel the content is made specifically for them. That specificity produces higher engagement, which is what lets a small channel grow at all.
Evaluating a niche before committing
Check three things. Demand: are people searching for it, and do existing videos on the topic get meaningful views? Competition: are the top results from huge channels, or is there room? Durability: can you make a hundred videos on this without running out or losing interest? A niche that fails the third test will stall regardless of how good the first two look.
