How it works

How to use the YouTube Money Calculator

Three steps, no account and nothing to install.

1Enter your monthly viewsUse the total view count from YouTube Studio Analytics for the last 28 or 30 days.
2Pick your nicheSelecting a niche prefills a typical RPM for that category.
3Adjust the RPM if you know itIf your channel is already monetized, use your real RPM from the Revenue tab in YouTube Studio for a far more accurate result.
4Read your estimateThe result shows estimated monthly, annual and per-video earnings based on roughly eight uploads per month.

How YouTube ad revenue actually works

YouTube pays creators 55% of the ad revenue generated on their long-form videos. Advertisers pay a CPM (cost per thousand impressions), YouTube keeps 45%, and what reaches you is measured as RPM. RPM is calculated across all your views, not just monetized ones, so it is always lower than CPM. A channel with a $10 CPM typically sees an RPM closer to $3-4 once unmonetized views, ad blockers and the revenue split are accounted for.

Why RPM varies so much by niche

Advertisers bid far more to reach some audiences than others. Finance, business and insurance content regularly earns $8-20 RPM because a converted viewer is worth thousands to the advertiser. Gaming, vlogs and entertainment usually sit at $1-3 because the audience is broad and less commercially targeted. Audience geography matters just as much: views from the US, UK, Canada and Australia earn several times more than views from markets with lower ad spend.

What this calculator does not include

Ad revenue is only one income stream. This calculator excludes sponsorships (often larger than ad revenue for mid-size channels), channel memberships, Super Chat, merchandise and affiliate income. It also excludes YouTube Premium revenue, which is paid separately based on watch time from Premium subscribers.

Most channels earn $1-$8 per 1,000 views after YouTube's 45% cut. The figure depends heavily on niche and audience country. Finance content can exceed $15 RPM while gaming often sits near $1-2.

At a typical $3 RPM you would need roughly 333,000 monthly views. At a $10 finance-niche RPM, around 100,000 views. Enter your own RPM above for a figure specific to your channel.

It is an estimate. It is most accurate when you enter your real RPM from YouTube Studio rather than the niche default, since RPM varies with seasonality, ad formats and viewer location.
