CPM Calculator
The CPM Calculator works in both directions: enter ad spend and impressions to find your cost per thousand, or enter a target CPM and view count to find what a campaign will cost. CPM is the standard pricing unit for YouTube advertising and the base number behind every promotion budget.
CPM = (spend ÷ impressions) × 1,000.

CPM versus RPM
These are frequently confused. CPM is what an advertiser pays per thousand ad impressions. RPM is what a creator receives per thousand video views after YouTube's 45% cut and after unmonetized views are included in the denominator. A $10 CPM typically produces an RPM nearer $3-4, which is why the two numbers never match.
Typical YouTube ad CPMs
YouTube advertising CPMs generally run $4-15 depending on targeting precision, format and competition. Broad awareness campaigns sit at the low end; narrowly targeted campaigns in competitive commercial niches sit much higher. CPMs also rise sharply in Q4 as retail advertisers bid up inventory, then drop in January.

Frequently asked questions
$4-15 is the normal range. Below $4 usually means very broad targeting; above $15 suggests a narrow, competitive audience.
CPM is what the advertiser pays per thousand impressions. RPM is what the creator earns per thousand views after YouTube's revenue share. RPM is always the lower number.
Q4 is the most competitive advertising period of the year. Retail and gift-season advertisers bid aggressively, pushing CPMs up across the platform before they fall again in January.
For an advertiser, not necessarily. A low CPM often means broad, untargeted reach. A higher CPM against a precisely targeted audience frequently produces a better cost per actual result.
